From the circumstances, it's hard to imagine that the cat is not upset. But it seems to me, as I've taken a second look at that photo, that the cat's features and our view of them match closely with a human's expression when they are very sad and distressed. And I'm pretty sure that, generally speaking, cats don't communicate via human expression.
