When I saw the words "worst sitcom of the 1980s," I immediately guessed which one. It was that bad.
Me too. Even though I was (was? :\) totally and completely enthralled with anything robot or tech, watching Small Wonder (when there was nothing else on, of course) was fuckin' excruciating. I remember being very confused by Vicki, though, but had absolutely no confusion about the annoying neighbor brat Harriet. She demanded an ass whooping or a slow death by choking or something.
And I even liked the movie Short Circuit. Both of them.
So much I spent a futile summer trying to build me a robot based on the design of Johnny 5 that would clean my room, based on plans or a first and second gen neural-net, crude but self-teaching AI brain. Complete with a bar code reading light pen and a barcode system for all of my stuff - even my socks! - long before RFID.
(Why an old light pen scanner? Err, well, they didn't have those hand-held laser scanners yet. The laser scanners in supermarkets were about the size of a TV. No, I never finished it. I never really got past collecting parts and schematics and some lego prototypes and whatnot.)
