Amen.

Very well said! I forwarded that one around.

Stands up and joins mudpuppie, jonmc and miko and claps loud enough to make his wife cringe (as usual!).

Very nice!

I boycott Ford for entirely different reasons.
posted by amro 20 March | 14:47
heh. I used to drive an Escort and a gearhead friend of mine said that "FORD," is an acronym for 'Found On Road Dead.'

Excellent.

Yeah! Testify!

How come those religous assholes (not that all religious people are assholes, not at all) always obfuscate their agenda with bullshit names like Americans For Family, of Family First, etc? I have always felt that they know their agenda is bullshit, and so must hide it lest they be found out.

Anyway, sorry for the derail.

/claps louder than fenriq

richat, you don't want to open a clap-fight dude! Our hands will be sore for days! But I wasn't cupping my hands before, now I am and my wife's nose is full-on wrinkled up!

They have to hide behind soft names because it'd be harder to recruit people for a group called "Haters 'R Us". Just like GWB hides his agenda behind names like Patriot Act and No Child Left Behind.

I think its one of the best learned lessons from 1984. And among the most insidious. Almost as bad as Democrats being "left" and Republicans being "right".

I know what you mean. I was in a bookstore the other day and there was a book subtitled 'How Ghetto Life Mirrors Middle-Class America,' which seemed to be a fair enough observation. A chapter into the book, I had read enough far-right rhetoric to make me choke. Typical of them to use a valid point and twist it into an excuse for ugliness and oppression. That's how they prey on naive people and why we need to get to those points first or at least adress them, because it we don't, they will.

Gay people buy cars?
But that makes no sense.

Actually, it'd be wittier to question the fact that AFA members drive cars. Given, (and I'm cleverly paraphrasing Bruce Stirling here) that they drive to church on engines powered by the crushed remains of dinosaurs.

And OK - I know that isn't exactly true.

I get one of the Fundie newsletters to (a) steal a miniscule amount of fundie bandwidth and (b) find out which television show they're determined to close down next, and it never fails to astonish / anger me.

The fact that they succeed is a demonstration of the lack of teeth in the American Left at the moment. Where are the exhortations and emails from right minded folk to boycott NBC and Walmart *unless* they keep showing "The Book of Daniel"

The gay guys prefer stick shift. I'm not sure why.

I used to peripherally know one of his daughters. Friend of a friend. I don't think it was the lesbian one, though.

Bravo, indeed.

Every time I hear someone spouting off that marriage is about breeding...sorry, having children, I wonder why they haven't gotten on those godless senior citizens, getting hitched well past their prime childbearing years. Heathens!

Rains down applause and tosses flowers. Breaks opera glasses, but doesn't care.

I just read this while writing this up for my blog and it made me tear up to realize just how powerful we can be against hate.

Absolutely beautiful.

What overbusy, underbrained worms these people must be.

I'm forever getting bummed out by how shitty and petty and cowardly people can be, then I realize they can't win. Either people get to be who they are or humanity ceases to exist. So it's a win-win.

Yup, an' them shitty, petty cowards still gots Thattagod innem, Kamiyopparai.

Does this mean that I have to buy a Ford?
posted by sarah connor 20 March | 16:57
Naw, you can still hate Ford for their shitty labor practices and, if you're really hard-core, their anti-semitic history. And also because they make sucky cars.
posted by mudpuppie 20 March | 18:21
I'll just boycott 'em cause they make shitty cars. And I knew it as Fix Or Repair Daily.

Great article 'pupp. I fwded it around also.

Reminds me of a theatre group in Durham that put on a production of The Laramie Project. Phelps's dingalee squad showed up & protested. At the end of the show, the entire cast, in their street clothes, walked across the street, up to the protestors, and simply stood there and looked them in the eye. The idiots stood bewildered for a moment and then clapped. Too bad they had no idea WTF they were clapping about.
