YAAAAY! What's your yay today?
I'm still stick in bed, but I'm feeling better and have actually been (weirdly) enjoying irrigating my sinuses. Netflix delivered the Bleak House series in it's entirety, and after I eat lunch, it's off to an afternoon of Dickensian mystery.

I've given notice at my crappy building management job and will be moving into a beautiful new apartment in a month! God, I love nesting.

The fishie, although not back to his normal gregarious self, seems to be improving, and is at least responding to my voice. And he's eating, thank god.

Soon, I will be able to afford a little bird friend to keep me and my fishie company!

Spring is almost here, and I'm soon going to be a yoga/biking/Pilates buff Specklet who will knock your socks off in a tank top.

But for now? Garlicky tomato soup (which I'm hoping I will actually be able to taste a little bit) and some dry toast.

I've got two more apartment appointments! Hopefully they're not psychotic omelet chefs!

(I took the day off to do some apt. hunting in peace)

My yay? Um.
I've finally started going swimming again, that's always a good thing :-) And on Friday, I'm taking a half day at work and getting the train up to Newcastle to see my sister. Definitely a plus!

(And heck, just talking to assorted MeChazens in IRC is a big yay. There are some lovely people out there, the only down side is that I feel like I'm living on the wrong landmass.)

I got stressed and depressed last night, drank a half-bottle of whisky, AND YET TODAY I FEEL GOOD! (And I'm not a half-bottle-drinking alcoholic type. I'm a sipping-alcoholic-wannabe type.)

(you have a special thing to irrigate with? my sinuses suck--always.)

i'm getting over a bug too--am happy i'm working from home all week.

I'm having a yaaaay-free day. :(

But just to keep from bringing everyone down, I'll scrape for one. Like, I have a friend's car, and I can drive to the grocery store for sick-person food if I want to. That's pretty yaaay.

Oh, and on preview, I'll add IRC to the list. Y'all usually make me go Yaaay.

YAAAAAY! Today is my Friday, for tomorrow I am leaving for several days' vacation in Colorado w/ my brother, sister-in-law, and our aunt & uncle.

I did my taxes last night, and I'm getting a hefty refund (well, hefty is all relative, but it was more than I expected, anyway). Yay!

Yayyyyy! I just made a laser-servo driver for my light show out of a junked hard drive head positioning motor. At work, no less. But not on the clock... Next step: hook it up to an amp and try to blow it up. I suspect I will need to build an integrator circuit to get it to drive properly, but the first step is always to do a little destructive testing.

* cackles evilly *

I'm losing weight despite eating like a pig. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

I'm having a yaaaay-free day. :(

I'm sorry, pup. Me too. Maybe I'll see ya on IRC tonight for some yay's.

I'll dredge one up from yesterday. Recently I stepped up my weight training when my former-rowing-coach friend showed me around the free weights. I have been doing squats and bench presses and stuff lately. And I feel strrrooonnng. LAst night I got on the pullup bar, and though I can't do any pullups yet, I can hang on with my chin above the bar!

I can hang!

amber - look into 'neti pots' - they're fantasmagoric.
posted by iconomy 15 March | 15:44
amber, check it out. It's really easy and feels good. I'm hooked! You can get a neti pot at your local health food store. Be sure to use non-iodized salt.

I'm rather yay-free as well today.

But I'm glad I don't live on New Caprica (Battlestar Galactica season finale).

YAAAY for all of you.

My YAY - I have a second interview tomorrow for the new position I interviewed for yesterday! Things look good!!

I guess I have four:

1) I've been going through some of the music that I've gotten via YSI from around here and it is all very excellent. Check out the Godfather theme posted at the start of today for a smile.

2) I was totally skeptical when I got it out of the library, but The Delmore Brothers album of C&W Boogi Woogie has become my favorite. So many of the song bring a smile to my face.

3) I'm going to the pottery studio after work and I've been having some success.

4) I got SSX Tour for my PS2, my first new game in ages since I don't really like playing games, but since SSX Tricky is the reason I bought the thing, I figured why not, and it rocks!

Oh yeah, all about the Neti too!

Warm weather. I have been outside working in the gardens. Pulling weeds, cleaning up debris from dead plants, thinning out protective mulch around cannas and roses. If time allows, the dahlias are going back into the ground.

My friend got a kickass job that she thought she had no chance in hell in getting (editorial position at Nature Neuroscience - she said that the interview was tougher than her PhD defense) so I am having YAAAAYs for her today.

You know, the neti doesn't do anything for me but make me laugh at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. I must have very stubborn sinuses.

I'm still clinging to yesterday's "YAAAAY!" Yesterday, I saw a family of river otters on my daily walk beside the creek. They saw me, too, and actually swam to the bank next to me and climbed out to get a better look. They were so close, I could hear them exhale when they came out of the water. We kept each other company for about five minutes, before I had to go. Must have been a dozen or so people walk past without ever stopping to see what I was looking at. OMG, OTTERS!

What great YAY's! My today yay is I finally heard back from the Toronto dude on tehe creative conference I went to last month and he wants me to send him stuff on the sessions I've been doing so he can get started on certifying me fully!

salt? is that safe? doesn't salt eat away stuff?

i have this stuff--Xlear wash in a bottle--but it only flushes a little--it doesn't relieve the pressure that much at all. (i have polyps in there too, but every single person i know who's had surgery to get rid of them has had them grow back right away, so i haven't done it yet. I also have those openings they create already there--the doc was surprised by that--i'm some kind of freak i guess) oh, that stuff has saline too.

*makes phlegmy noise*
posted by amberglow 15 March | 16:23
use 0.9 % salt (9 grams per litre but damned if I'm converting it for you non-metric heathens :) ), amberglow. that will be fine.

Three little words: Spring Training Games.

Hell yeah for the pre-season -- cheap seats, perfect weather, no pressure.

1 tsp salt to a little less (92.5%) than a pint of water.
posted by porpoise 15 March | 17:01
Just ask a scientician: The salt is to make the solution hypertonic, in order to draw fluid out of the schnozz. Or at very least, isotonic, so as not to cause additional fluid to osmose into the previously phlegmy proboscis.
posted by Triode 15 March | 17:09
yeah, yay for weretable radio too : >

ok triode--i'll take your 10-dollar words for it ; >

I decided to quit my job and either get a better one or go back for my doctorate work. I've been exercising, losing weight, and feel really good. And, in the just desserts department, someone I know who's been hard to deal with and difficult to approach about it finally came to a realization that it was bothering other people. There's no substitute for an internal understanding.

Glad people are enjoying the radio. Yeppers.

amro, if you can see yourself in the mirror, you're not holding your head right!

amber, you add salt to make a saline solution, like blood. Doesn't irritate the tissues like water will.

YAAAAY!
