Holy shit! There is water pouring from my ceiling right now.

I talked to the people upstairs and apparently their kid put too much toilet paper in the toilet and they can't get it to stop flowing. Maintenance has been called.

They said the water is inches deep and into the bedrooms. Yikes. I asked if they'd tried turning the water to the toilet off but I'm not sure they understood. I was about to go upstairs to check it myself when a friend of the family showed up.

UPDATE: The water just stopped; guess he figured it out.

I always wonder whether or not people know they can stop the water immediately by turning it off at the toilet. Check one for 'no'.

What kind of moron? Maybe the same kind of moron that clogs the toilet, flushes once until the bowl fills and just starts to overflow, then stares at it for a while until the tank refills, and then flushes a second time just to make sure it's really clogged. Guests have done that twice.

What kind of moron? The same kind the careens through crowds when the accelerator sticks and doesn't think to turn off the ignition.

I may just have a minor waterstain in my ceiling. I don't own the place, so no worries. I can't imagine the carnage upstairs.

Do you have renter's insurance? I don't (yet), but after a friend lost her apartment in a fire, I fully believe that every renter should get it.
