or "something-ally" to start the sentence with? (financially, scientifically, economically, psychologically--like "Scientifically speaking, I'd say the results were quite illuminating." or something like that.)

Situational is the closest to what i'm after, but it needs to sound impressive. It's for the title of a paper: "Context-dependent stingless bee response to spider webs"

is the context their behavior or the weather or season or what kind of bee it is or age or sex or what?

Huh. maybe I'll go with contextual.

Amberglow: The bees behave differently when they encounter a web on their way out foraging as opposed to when they encounter a web on their way back to the hive.

Unfortunately adaptive is a loaded word in my field. It's usually used in the sense of evolutionary adaptations, and i can't use it in the title...
