Holy Pointlessness Batman! [More:]So, I just drove for 7 hours (almost 1000 km) to the FedEx depot in Mississauga and back for no reason. The FedEx depot in my city isn't open on Saturdays (!!) so I had to go pick up my package. What was in the package? A cell line I requested from a lab at UCLA....dead...all dead. UCLA packaged the cells in the wrong box and so the dry ice they were on had sublimated (a long time before I got my hands on it I would say). So I drove for 7 hours to pick up dead cells. Did I mention gas is not cheap? Yeah...it isn't.

Tell me funny things to help me feel better, please?
My almost two year old daughter woke me up this morning by urinating on my feet. I was asleep in my chair and she walked into the room, pulled off her diaper and pissed on my feet. She laughed and laughed and laughed.

That's a hell of a way to wake up.

I would not want to wake up that way. I hear things like this and it makes me scared of kids! My day kinda sucked but at least no one peed on my feet....

I think I have a new mantra.

(certain) Cell lines can be pretty robust. Why not throw them in some complete media in case a few managed to survive by munching their sibling's liver or something?

As for dumb shit, I decided, hey, wth, and clicked on dgaicun's link.

(note, don't click on the link in the link)

I've plated them just in case some survived but I'm not holding my breath. I'll know tomorrow for certain. Anybody work with MEFs? Are they hardy?

I clicked it...I don't know what to say about it.

Hey! Keep the tip!

Damn you.

Mouse embryonic fibroblasts? I assume that they were in frozen glycerol stock, shipped frozen... depending on how well they were frozen, there might be a few that're still viable. They tend to be relatively robust - because the (potential) titre is so low it might take a while to reach near-/confluence.

Unless they've got something wierd transfected in them or something, then all bets are off.

Or are you referring to a Marine Expeditionary Force? Those fuckers are tough as nails, they'll be ok.

Sorry. :( I'll stop now
*stop everything*

They're mouse embryonic fibroblasts that have GFP embedded on the inactive X. I have no idea how hardy these guys are. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.

I don't even know what the Marine Epeditionary force is. Sounds hardy though.

Marine Expeditionary Force

I guess if it's not actively over-expressing something that does something it won't really make a difference. Good luck on those cells and I hope there's someone (the shipper) that you get to scream at a little.

I like the sciencey talk and all, it just goes over my head at high speed. :)

At least it's not engineerey talk...

I worked in hospitals and with labs and so i kinda get what porpoise blew out of his porthole with that. Personally, I think any phrase that contains the word "mouse", and any other scientific/biological jargon is neato. I like the word mouse.
