MetaChat is an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and
chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter. Questions? Check the FAQ. Please note: This is important.
heh. Do I get a prize for knowing it was still open?
But in all seriousness, I know it might come across as cold or whatever, but come on, posting to a noticeboard about a lifethreatening condition is just a bit....stupid or something.
I didn't read the previous thread of the poster but if someone gave info there, I would have thought the logical thing would be to email them (well, logic reallllly says to go see a doc ASAP).
Probably smart on mathowie's part. As long as the post itself wasn't deleted, someone was bound to email and offer to post it. He just avoided the mini pile-on that would have come if he left it open. If I were mathowie, MeTa would be the bain of my existence.
Mathowie made his bed and now has to sleep in it. It's his fault that our flamewars affect his livelihood. I'd appreciate a little more human warmth out of him sometimes too, although I do appreciate he's busy and tired. So am I.
Well, btgog, I think you may be jumping the gun there... Don't forget that Matt has been doing this for many, many years, and has a lot of experience under his belt. Some decisions that may seem inscrutable to us have very good reasons behind them, and some behavior that may seem cold is often quite the opposite.
I know he's personally taken the heat for things that would be perfectly justifiable if he were to explain his reasons, but he doesn't - in the interest of protecting the person involved.
Not that Matt confides in me... these are just some of my observations over the years. I don't agree with everything or understand everything he does, but I think accusations of heartlessness are way misguided.
I don't think he's heartless, I think he needs to take the time to give his heart time to communicate to the keyboard. In the post ortho linked, a sentence like 'Try asking somebody via MetaChat or the jabber server to post it for you, good luck.' would have made all of the difference.
