I remember that stuff. They were like little chocolate candy things. They even came in a box like See's candy. My mom tried 'em for awhile in the seventies. (She was never overweight, but... well, you know how it is.)
Oh yeah, my mom lived on these in the 70s. They were yummy...I used to steal them and eat them. They tasted like caramels. I remember when I first heard of the disease AIDS, thinking, well there goes AYDS. They disappeared really quickly after Rock Hudson's death. Weird.
My mom ate Ayds and drank Metracal, if anyone remembers that. It tasted like liquid malted milk balls.
Yeah, believe it or not, they continued being advertised after the name "AIDS" first appeared (for a time, it was still being called "GRID" -- gay-related immune disorder).
Jeez, Wikipedia says it was still marketed as late as 1988.
