Barney Fife, the bumbling sidekick that never does an honest day's work;

The Mayor, exercising political powers for personal gain;

Aunt Bea, your average, naïve, opinionated, and wholly ignorant jeo citizen;

and Opie, our lost innocence.

What a sick and twisted show.

It does kind of fit in with my belief that America's moral decline began long before the scapegoated Sixties. But I'm saving that for my third book.

I still have the biggest crush in the world on Andy Griffith. I really do. I would kick out Aint Bea in a heartbeat just to be able to make his bicuits.

I happen to like Andy Griffith, and I think you're wrong to apply your wedge-the-past-into-present-political-reality-at-all-costs mindset to this show, which, if you pay attention to the show and not your own clever self-righteousness, tells you more about a past time and place than it does about the present.

Seriously, you can ruin anything for yourself by superimposing latter-day value judgments on it.

I liked Don Knotts and was sad to hear of his death. I think your understanding of Mayberry RFD and The Andy Griffith Show is unfair to his talent and comic legacy.

Whatever floats your boat, though.
