Meh - ka?

Mee - ka?

Mech - a?
posted by SassHat 02 March | 17:48
I always say "mek-a" and picture all of us as animated robots stumbling into things.
posted by goatdog 02 March | 17:52
I guess it would be "correct" to pronounce it meh cha (as in meta chat).

However, I call it meka in my head.

Dodgy/Taz...?

meh-cha (like charcoal)
posted by flopsy 02 March | 17:54
I say it like Mick in "Miss You" when he's talking about those Puerto Rican girls. Jon, you know what I'm talking about.
posted by Eideteker 02 March | 17:55
It's "mee-chah" to me.
posted by me3dia 02 March | 17:57
Like flopsy. Meh-cha. And meh-fee, meh-tah, ask me. ;-)
posted by mygothlaundry 02 March | 18:02
Meh-Cha. Mee-Fie, Ask-Me, Meh-Ta, Mow-Fie.
posted by matildaben 02 March | 18:06
Just don't call it late to dinner.

"mee cha"

(which, in my head, lines up with "mee fye" and "mee tah" and "ask mee", but not "metachat" or "metafilter.")

But wtf do I know? I'm pretty damn new around here.

Meff-ie

Meh-cha, Mee-fee, Meh-Ta, Ask-Mee-fee, Mo-Fee

I also pronounce the following wrong: No-kia (instead of Knock-ia), Lie-nix (instead of Linnix).

And a friend of mine in California says "mee-mee" for "meme", while I say meem. Which is correct?
posted by tracicle 02 March | 18:11
Meem. Huh, I always said Noh-Kia but what do I know, I thought it was Japanese initially.
posted by matildaben 02 March | 18:15
"mee-cha" as in "Pleased to meecha!"
posted by tommasz 02 March | 18:18
For some reason kiwis pronounce it "knock-ia". I learned of the brand in the States and when I came back here I was some kind of freaky freak who couldn't say Nokia properly.
posted by tracicle 02 March | 18:18
Meem like gene.

Wait, or was that Jean? Eugene.

Mee-fie, Ask-mee, Meta, Fee Fie Foe Fum.
posted by porpoise 02 March | 18:20
Meh-cha.
Meem.
Tuh-may-toe.

Noh-kia is correct, not knock-ia, if we're going by Japanese pronunciations...
posted by Specklet 02 March | 18:35
Yeah, but it's a Finnish company.
posted by matildaben 02 March | 18:35
Same as MGL. And Nokia with a Finnish accent.
posted by nomis 02 March | 18:52
I have yet to say it aloud, but if I did, it'd be Meh-cha.
posted by krix 02 March | 19:02
Here's my take on that whole mess:

Mee - Fie

Ask - Me

Meh - Ta

Mecka

posted by SassHat 02 March | 19:04
Mecca. For it is a holy place.

Meka leka hi, meka hiney ho!
posted by wendell 02 March | 19:39
I pronounce it "Sheeeet-Bullah"

(actually that's how you say swedish meatball in Swedish, praise jah)

I say it like Eideteker and Mick Jagger. Meeetcha.
posted by Divine_Wino 02 March | 21:28
Mee chah. Meh kah never occured to me.
posted by deborah 02 March | 22:23
Meh. Since no one knows I'm a dog and all I can say is WOOF!, I'll play along.

It's MeeChah.
posted by Doohickie 02 March | 22:40
I say meh cha. Except I don't really say meh cha, 'cause who would I say it to?
posted by taz 03 March | 02:25
The first time I saw Mecha I thought "mecca? what the hell is that?" and then I realised the person was referring to this site.

I don't say mecha ever, even though I have discussed the site on occasion. The saving of one syllable hardly seems worth it. If I did say it out loud it would be mee-cha - but I won't. Ever.

When I was at a mefi meetup in London I pronouced mefi as mee-fee and got some very strange looks. Mef-fee just sounds weird to me, like something posh drunks would say to each other "Pass me the methy darling, it's so intoxicating!"
posted by dodgygeezer 03 March | 04:25
Mecha, as in mechanism, which we, as denizens of the site, are. Spofi rhymes with loafy (if "loafy" is actually a word). I cast the ostrakon at the blue a while ago so it doesn't much cross my lips, but I said it Meffy before it was lost.
