01 March 2006

Today is going to be okay. It's going to suck, but afterwards we're going to have a tasty meal at Asia de Cuba. And hopefully that won't suck.
I hope it turns out better than you expect mosch. That's always a possibility!

Also, I am curious about the cuisine of a place called Asia de Cuba.

It's a pizza place. Duh.

Ohhhhh. Yeah okay, it sounds like a pizza place, now that you mention it. Right.

Sounds like you're living by my credo:

Hope for the best; expect the worst.

Today will be great. Actually, it really is great here. It's totally springtime out... I've opened all the windows in the house to give it a good airing while I have the chance, because I don't think all the beauteousness can last. It's a bit too early in the season.

mosch, it will be tough, but at least you can rip off the band-aid and get it over with fast. Also, you sound like such a good person, so I'm sure it'll all be as humane as possible. Hope it's tolerable.

Well, it's done. It sucked, but such is business.

Fortunately, almost everybody took the news well.

One of the fellas reminded me so much of myself... I asked him if he knew what he was going to do, and he replied "I'm going to drive across America, and take lots of pictures."

*hugs the mosch*

Endings, beginnings, all this funktified thing we call life & experience. It's not always fun or comfortable, but done right it's never dull, and that's what makes it truly rich, right??

Have a great time at Asia de Cuba! Order a sazerac just to mix things up a bit.

Did I miss what happened? It sounds kind of like you closed down your company and/or had to fire a bunch of people. Am I on the right track? That is sure something that sucks.

I had to fire a bunch of people.

It was the first time I ever fired people who hadn't actually done anything wrong.

Life goes on though, and hopefully they'll end up in more interesting, or more wonderful jobs.

It really was okay, but it still doesn't sit well.

I totally missed that info as well... otherwise, I definitely wouldn't have told you it will be great. Ouch. Sorry, honey. That's painful.

taz: It was good to see that you were having a beautiful day.

I've talked before with acquaintances who had to fire/lay off people for the first time; they usually were up all night the night before vomiting and shaking. It sounds really rough. You seem to be a very considerate boss and I'm sure you will give them good references.

It sounds like you handled it well, mosch. Laying off good employees takes a lot out of you, but I've come to think of it as one of the most important things I've ever had to do (in a business environment). Providing an honest, respectful, helpful, and humane environment through such a difficult transition is of real value to everyone involved. Some of my best friends are people I've fired. True story.

Mrs.mosch was great.

Asia de Cuba was great.

MetaChat was great.

I could've done without the rest of the day.

and you gave them good severance? if it was out of your hands, and you were good about it, there's not much you can do.
