Book Club Nominations again. I see one from rebirtha, one from dersins, and about 4 from amberglow (who often forgets that you're only allowed one nomination). So let's try this again.[More:]

It looks like matilda wanted to nominate a particular book. If so, please link it in this thread. Again, ONE NOMINATION PER CUSTOMER. dersins, rebirtha, you guys are off the hook. The rest of you, please help me out by doing it the way I ask (I know I'm a pain) because I'm buried under work at the moment. Please?
OK, totally new nomination. This one has been sitting on my shelf for over a year and I still kind of want to read it.

The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. A nonfiction book about the culture clash that happens when the Western medical establishment tries to deal with a Hmong immigrant family whose child has epilepsy.

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. ;-P

When anybody ever asks me for a book to read, I usually recommend Barry Hughart's "Bridge of Birds". I just re-read it the other week, and I still love the thing. The fact that he only wrote three out of seven planned books just depresses me.

Irons in the Fire by John McPhee. Actually anything by McPhee.

I'm really interested in his writing style.

What's the ruling on previously read books? Does it have to be new only to the nominator or to all? I've read American Gods and the Silmarillion. Wouldn't mind reading them again, probably.

I'm not even in the club because I feel guilty if I read anything that's not work related but I feel compelled whenever books are discussed to recommend William Golding The Inheritors because it's great. You guys should try it. Also, Gulliver's Travels.
