Shrews are venomous. Amazing! A classmate was nipped during a shrew inventory of a nature center - we where tagging them - and she ended up with terrible pain spiking all the way to her shudder. The professor instructed that shrews have the same basic venom as cobras although a bit less potent. Of course that was after the fact.
When I lived in India, we used to always check our shoes before we put them on because there were these tiny tiny shrews who liked to hang out in shoes. If you put your toe on one you'd feel it's tiny furry body and it would squeal this unbeleivably high-pitched "eeeeeee!".
