Why does this fascinate me so much?

Concisely:

Jetsam is post-sinkage-of-the-ship. Flotsam is pre-.

Jetsam is jettisoned to try to prevent sinking. Flotsam ends up in the water when this fails.

Heh! All those years and I never differentiated betwixt the two.

I'm in if we do it. Let's do it. My mixes may only be jetsam in most cases, but occasionally, one of my classics has been treasured until the ship went down, when, you guessed it, it became flotsam.

Electronic swaps penalize people who don't have access to very high speed connections, and the limitations of a CD or tape force people to consider what they're putting on much more carefully, so I'm not fond of them (also, half the fun is the making of the CD cover). I've reappropriated the Metafilter swap site if people want to do a physical swap.

I'm interested in setting up side swaps with people who I've gotten excellent mixes from before (and/or favorite DJs), in addition to whatever random set I get assigned to. Is there some way to program the system to show you who's in the system and send an "invite" to someone to swap with you, which they can then accept or reject (kind of like linkedin)? Or should we just do it the old-fashioned way and email each other if we want a side swap?

Hey, I'm a software engineer, not a web designer! That page was plain black text on a white background before dodgy sent me CSS or whatever to make it look nicer.

The side-swap thing is a great idea, but I don't think I'll have time to put it together in the next week. So instead I'll just dump all the participating usernames & emails into a single page (in addition to the standard swapset pages), and people can pick and choose from there.
