I love nutria. In New Orleans they call 'em swamp rats; but I think they're adorable. Watching the little guys swim is something else; they're wicked fast, hyper-animated critters. They're my favorite vermin!

They are the number-one most popular roadkill victim in Virginia. They like to hang around near the roads, sadly.

I heard a report on NPR a while back that in some deep south state, the government had, in an attempt to controll runaway nutria populations, begun disseminating recipes and encouraging its impoverished citizens to hunt them for dinner.
