It's been a long time since I've posted here, or really looked, but I got this Richard Thompson box set today, and I thought this totally fit here. Folk/punk.
If you are a fan of Richard Thompson, it's great. There's some fantastic stuff here (like the the topic song), but I don't think it's for the average Joe. It's a great history of his music done with a wide variety of live (for the most part) recordings. There's quite a bit that's not really great great recording quality, but if you're a fan you can close your eyes and imagine being there. I just got it today, and I'm tickled with finally getting a version of "Substitute" and "Alexander Graham Bell", but I have a lot more to peruse. Being a fanboy, I am quite pleased.
As far as the original song. I had no idea who did it, I just knew it was in French. And I like how he keeps in the act when singing the english parts... I was hoping someone would know the original version here.
Richard Thompson kicks ass in general. By the way, just as Werner Herzog was moved to make Grizzly Man, the documentary of the life of Timothy Treadwell taken from Treadwell's own footage plus Herzog's, Thompson was also inspired to do much of the music...
