I like GOOD pancakes. Not just any pancakes. Those little round things you get at McDonalds - those are NOT pancakes. I like buttermilk pancakes, big fat ones three or more at a time. I like blueberry pancakes with real blueberries and real blueberry syrup, preferably that _I_ made from my blueberries. I make good pancakes.
I don't think I've had pancakes that didn't make me regret having had them for the next hour or so after eating. But when I start to feel better, I'm able to appreciate the pancakes but again understand why I only eat pancakes once or twice a year.
Breakfast corn dogs sound good. The McDonald's McGriddle is also pretty good in a very disgusting way. But very disconcerting when you first try it without knowing that the "bun" is a syrup-infused pancake and not a normal bun.
Huge pancakes are the consummate cycling food. Before a 4-hour ride, it is adviseable - nay, obligatory - to consume three plate-size discs liberally bedaubed with butter and bathed in syrup.
If I'm planning to be lazy instead, I generally steer clear of em.
I also love French Toast, though I don't know what portion of my heritage is French (just that there is some in there somewhere). A good diner is measured by its French Toast at 3:30 in the morning.
I like pancakes a lot. I also like french toast, particularly the divine "overnight" variety my cousin makes. But my ideal breakfast is a omelette with 300 veggies, home fries, wheat toast, jelly, and coffee.
I have a love hate relationship with pancakes. I love a nice fluffy or gummy pancake...but as a child my mother would sometimes mix corn in with the batter, and being the good catholics that we were, Fridays were often Pancake Fridays. Too often.
There's probably a whole session of therapy in that batter.
You non-pancake lovers probably have never had GOOD ones. Seriously.
CC, you got a good sweet tater pancake recipe to share? I have made some before but I didn't like the recipe much. I had some at a place on vacation that were divine, so I know that I like good ones.
Want to impress your significant other tomorrow? Make your pancake batter a little bit thick, mix in a drop or two of red food coloring, and pour the batter into the pan in a wide V shape. Never fails.
