Poor, poor Mr. taz.... Suffering severe back pain at the moment (we've dealt with this before, though), and then suddenly, last night - pop! - he snaps a tendon in his finger... I looked this up, and it's called an “Extensor Tendon Injury” or "Mallet Finger" / "Baseball Finger". (About this injury.)[More:]

Of course, he had to work first thing this morning (an episode shoot for a TV series with a whole crew, and he's kind of irreplaceable - so it's not the sort of thing he wouldn't show up for unless it was a serious emergency), and of course, it's Sunday. (What is it? Some kind of rule that this stuff has to happen on a Sunday?) So... he's going to try to get to an emergency room today, if possible, though, obviously, it would be better to see an orthopaedic specialist, which won't be possible 'til tomorrow. In any case, in the meantime, we've actually splinted it ourselves (o_O)

So... Any personal experience with this specific injury? Any general advice? It's relatively painless, so we're pretty sure there is no accompanying fracture of the bone.

Oooh. Poor Mr. Taz. Poor Taz, especially. It is hard to tell which is worse, being in pain, or dealing with someone in pain.

I've had some crazy back troubles in the past, but I can't say much in terms of advice other than visualize yourself feeling calm and better...

Good look to both of you...

You're right, sassy; I'd pretty much rather suffer the pain myself than see it in someone I love. I mean, I really don't want pain(!), but it seems easier to bear it than to witness it.

I know. It is definitely harder to watch someone you love in pain than to feel it yourself. Hopefully things will calm down for you both.

Mr. Taz has something going for him called endorphins. The body will produce them for him at some point.

You, on the other hand, poor thing. You have to sit there, and feel like you can't do anything for him. Just remember that this too shall pass.

The furtivess has been nothing but a pillar of strength over the past six weeks as I lay on the livingroom floor suffering from sciatica. I gave her one of those nifty pink RAZR phones as a thank you gift and distress beacon.

Take good care of Mr. Taz and don't let him get discouraged.
