Oh! Canada :-( OMFG what a shitty/unimaginitive arrangement they are playing of my national anthem at the Winter Olympics. →[More:]This happened in Sydney too. Like any national anthem there is a lot of potential in the tune: for the nationals and for the international listeners who have never heard it (or even heard of the country) before. This was once again BOOO-RING! I blame it on David Foster...

It's not every day you get to convert folks through music like this and I'd think they would try to do something more modern and interesting and impactful. I don't mean modern in the sense of pissing off ears, I just mean modern in bringing something out of the tune that strikes modern ears. They should have taken the version that CBC Radio plays every morning at 5am where I live. That works for me (I always stay awake for the chromatic brass line at the end). What a shame.

Way to go Jennifer Heil! I do think our team slogan is just stupid, though: "Claim The Podium". Ugh. Our atheletes deserve better.

Canadian Women's Senior Hockey nailed Italy 16-0. Japan did better in Nagano (13-0 iirc). Wickenheiser said something, after the game, about how "it wasn't much fun" to clobber another team like that.

Canada's Really Big (Arrogant Worms; sung to a Sousa-like march?)

When I look around me, I can't believe what I see
It seems as if this country has lost its will to live
The economy is lousy, we barely have an army
But we can still stand proudly cuz Canada's really big
We're the second largest country on this planet earth
And if Russia keeps on shrinking then soon we'll be
first
(As long as we keep Quebec)
The USA has tanks and Switzerland has banks
They can keep them thanks, they just don't amount
Cuz when you get down to it, you find out what the truth
is
It isn't what you do with it its the size that counts
Most people will tell you that France is pretty large
But you can put fourteen France's into this land of ours
(It's take a lot of work, It'd take a whole lot of work)
We're larger than Malaysia, almost as big as Asia
We're bigger than Australia and it's a continent
So big we seldom bother to go see one another
Though we often go to other countries for vacations
Our mountains are very pointy, our prairies are not
The rest is kinda bumpy, but man do we have a lot
(we've got a lot of land, we've got a whole lot of land)
So stand up and be proud and sing out very loud
We stand out from the crowd cuz Canada's really big
