Carole King or Laura Nyro? - possibly. I don't know what their speaking voices sound like but you get a snippet at the beginning and end. Mind you, Nyro has been a mystery before.
I highly doubt that is Laura Nyro singing. I used to listen to her a lot; I haven't for about 20 years, but I'm pretty sure I have a pretty strong read on her voice and that isn't it.

I agree sorta matildaben. This song is about 30 years old so I think it's possible. She did tend to sing in a higher register than this though, so I think you're probably right. Great singer - always on my iRiver: Stone Soul Picnic (no idea if I can surry though) and Gibson Street.

It's not Carol King either. Tapestry and Really Rosie get a lot of play in our house. :-)

Joni Mitchell?

Not Carole or Joni for sure. This may sound crazy, but the first person that came to mind was Norah Jones. Yes, that actually does sound crazy. Very similar notes, though.

Yeah, I like that crazy idea, but does she play guitar? I thought she was strictly a piano person.

Oh that is so Bonnie Raitt. Old Bonnie Raitt.

The clue is 'Die Beatles first'? What the?

Hmm interesting iconomy... she did appear on his John's Duets too.

It's definitely her. Never heard her sing that song, but I've spoken to her a few times (more importantly, she's spoken back to me ;) and that's her voice.

I saw her in concert years and years ago and I met her after and sang Women Be Wise to her, imitating her perfectly, and it freaked her out. She told me I could record her albums for her if she ever got laryngitis.

That's really, really cool, iconomy.

iconomy, you constantly delight and surprise. I've put Bonnie in as a guess - do you want the CD? It doesn't appeal to me.
But as box said: Die Beatles first?

tellurian, I emailed them too, and was going to offer you the CD if I won...hehe.

I have no idea what Die Beatles first means. Die Beatles means The Beatles in German, but still, I have no idea what that means.

Cool iconomy - I think I have the clue worked out too. Their first recording was - January 5, 1962: Single "My Bonnie"/"The Saints"

No way...how THE HELL did you find that! Well at least we know it definitely is Bonnie Raitt now... ;)

I never thought getting a Master's would come to this... || Today is the 197th anniversary of the great biologist Charles Darwin's birth.
