11 February 2006

Is there any better way to spend a snowstorm than holed up with a full fridge, 2 quarts of Peche Lambic, a 12-pack of schlitz, and a bellyful of bar Budweiser, and some loud tunes?
Add a purring kitty and you're golden

no, man, you need a dog and it should be Kriek Lambic, not Peche.

i have spoken.

Heh. Sadly, no pets in our building. I did spend my laundry duty today at the bar conversing with a dreadlocked black firefighter. He actually air-guitared during 'Freebird' off the jukebox, god bless him.

thes: I prefer Peach to Cherry. Call me crazy.

Ya need some guns.

Yes. I've got TiVo-ed Olympics, a dog, some random beer that I got from Trader Joes a while back and pizza and cheesesteak on the way. Almost makes up for forcing me to skip BritPop night.

*cranks 'Seek & Destroy'*

You have no idea what a frenzy that song sends a live audience into. Well, maybe after hearing it you do. (very few bands mix as well with booze. remember that t-shirt 'Alcoholica - Drank 'Em All.' No idle boast, that)

God this song is making me miss my old hair. I wish I had something to twirl around while I bang my head.

Get a band baton?

Heh.

Let's keep the drunken headbanging going, shall we?

Motorhead - Iron Fist
Ramones - Commando
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight

Bonus track from a band I like to describe as 'Motorhead with breasts':

Girlschool - Yeah Right

Last night I dreamed that jonmc and a female mechatter (not sure who - any takers?) were visiting Melbourne and came to see me at my office. I was concerned I might get in trouble for not working so I shut the door. But jon was showing me a movie on the internet and it was really loud. So I had to subtly get rid of them. How's that for hospitality?

Anyway, the point of this post is: I love Seek and Destroy.

*starts mosh pit*

Also, I just coughed so powerfully that phlegm hit my computer screen from a foot away. Life is bliss.
posted by jonmc 11 February | 19:02
I only saw metallica live once, on the black album tour. Luckily they were kind enough to play a set of earlier songs, since the black album is rock and we went to hear metal. Good times.

The shooting phlegm indicates good strong lungs. You can be justy proud.

What, no jerky or dried berries? No distilled whiskey to speak of? And no Iggy Pop on the stereo?

*you have died of frostbite*

(Cover versions don't count, eh.)

I've seen 'em twice, on the Justice tour in Hartford and on the black album tour on Long Island. Seek & Destroy was the climax of both shows. I've been to punk shows in some of the dankest dives you can imagine and rock legends in big arenas and I've never seen audience go as apeshit as when they ripped into that song.

(on preview: heh, I just cranked 'Gimme Danger' a few minutes ago, hoss)

No blanket and someone to snuggle with under said blanket?

I demand more blankets!

blankets and whiskey, blankets and whiskey!

Fact: the metallica show in Auckland was my first date with my then girlfriend. Romance is not dead.

Best mosh pit ever, in my experience, was Sepultura on the Chaos AD tour. Magic.

My bad on missing 'Gimmie Danger'. I think we need to ditch Punxatawney Phil in favor of an animal that can accurately predict Noreasters. I mean, we've got the science for that, right?

I've got a jones for some Dos Equis right now, but I really should be prepping for exams. Crap.

Also, while you're gloating about your wintry bliss, spare a thought for those of us (well, me) sitting in our (my) undies taking a break from sunbathing cos it's too hot out. Mmmm, sunburn.

To switch gears to something slightly more moody, here's a band featuring Hendrix's favorite guitarist (he said so on Dick Cavett):

ZZ Top - Jesus Just Left Chicago

Yup, warm and sunny here in Portland too, if you can call 50-something warm. Spend my day outdoors in the rare sunshine building a wall! w00t! I was outside a whole 8 hours and didn't get wet! OMG I've entered a parallel universe.

We're getting pummelled with snow here. Thank god I stocked up on beer, hot dogs. potato chips, cigarettes and other necessities.
posted by jonmc 11 February | 19:34
I'm going to get in my car and drive to Teh Snow tomorrow.

you're driving to New York?

It's cold here, but no snow - in fact, it's quite sunny.

And I'm making tacos.

just to keep things going, here's the most brilliantly stoopid, vulgar, sexist, but utterly enjoyable bar song I've heard lately:

Trace Adkins - Honkytonk Badonkadonk

Nah,just the mountain, for a little fun, then back to the temperate zone in time for dinner.
