AskMeCha: Smart playlists in iTunes based on file location? I use iTunes, but I don't let it manage the file structure of my music collection. I have, for example, a folder for the music posted here on Mecha, and I'd like to have a playlist for just that music. Of course, I could manually add that music to a playlist as it accumulates, but I'd really like to have a smart playlist that looks at file locations and adds anything in that directory automatically. Anybody know how to do that?
I guess my alternative is to add "mecha" to the comments tag of each file, and run a smart playlist based on that.

My impression of itunes is that it doesn't believe in the idea of folder structure. So I would guess that it's at least non-trivial to do.

I'd probably go with your tagging suggestion. Itunes likes tags.

iTunes does not "watch" directories to add to its library files added to the directory.

But, there is an iTunes API you can use to control many aspects of Itunes.

It can be accessed under MS-Windows as a COM (Component Object Model) object, or via a C API.
