Take This Job and Shove It! [More:]My employer reneged on a deal that has cost me $5000 in commissions. I either had to accept that or quit after working at my job for four years. And after coordinating the biggest event in my company's history and executing it to rave reviews earlier this week.

I walked.

And I am already a happier and better man because of it. I also left on my own terms, did not lower myself to her level and secured a reference from the one senior executive who I had any respect for at all.

When faced with the choice of lying down or standing up for yourself, stand up? You'll repect yourself more the next day and there are always other jobs.
WOOHOO! Good on you fenriq. I am sure you will find something much better.

The temptation is to step over the line and expose her for the fraud she is. But I'm so far being successful in fighting it.

Which is why I am not drinking.

Congrats.

Well done, fenriq. Good for you for standing up for yourself. There's too little of that in the corporate world.

Quitting is the best. I have been working for myself (that asshole) for so long It is nice to remember the beautiful power of affirmation that comes from saying this is right and I can do it.

Sincere congrats.

Thanks everyone, as the night's gone on, I've been in a better and better mood. There's almost no downsides to this change, aside from my co-workers who I do like and know exactly what they'll be suffering in my wake.

There's a chance that a couple more people will walk as well and in a company as small as mine (shhhh, don't talk about size in market research because it does matter), well, five people leaving would represent a rather shocking loss to the company. It could even concievably crumble if enough of the others stand and refuse to take it anymore either.

They all know exactly why I quit and that they work for a fraud. Would you want to stay knowing that?

Unplug the computer, then start drinking.

Good on you, Fenriq. It's never wrong to stand up for what you believe is a strong moral principle.

With your cheap rewards, your blackmail and your comical rage, just remember you'll only be the boss so long as you pay my wage

Nice one, fenriq. Your integrity will hold you in good stead.

By the way, here's the entire conversation with my boss of four years.

"I'm quitting."
"Okay."
"Do you even want to know why?"
"No."
"Okay then."

Pretty apt metaphor for why I was leaving really.

And my theme song for the day, Get Up, Stand Up!

Sounds like you could poach your coworkers and start a new biz to compete against the old. And would kick ass doing it.
