Grammy post ==bitch away

(i'll start you off--Madonna's way too old to be wearing a 70s leotard, but her 1978 haircut rocked--i'll bet she had one just like it in highschool)

Coldplay sounds like fake U2 now, too.
who is that doing a Burt Bacharach impression?

how was gorillaz?

Madonna looked hot. I hope I look half that good when I'm her age. I dig her haircut, too.
posted by amro 08 February | 20:34
no gorillaz that i saw yet--unless i missed it?

i think Madonna's too stringy--for that look you can't be that thin and toned--you have to be more rounded (think Olivia Newton John in her Physical video).

oo--Mary j. Blige and U2 doing "One"...she's not in tune at all tho.
posted by amberglow 08 February | 20:42
I just turned on the TeeVee and U2 were on. I always enjoy U2, but I'll probably change the station after I hear them. I think Lost is new tonight.

Gorillaz was the animated band behind Madonna... ;)

Bono's a goof. I don't like when he plays a guitar, looks dumb. Same goes for Mick Jagger. Edge is still cool though.
posted by richat 08 February | 20:44
I thought Madonna looked amazing, and her body is crazy for a 48 year old. She looked great in the leotard, but I was disappointed because I've seen her in it a zillion times already and was expecting her to wear something exciting and different.

I hate her hair with a passion though. It's really stupid, and unflattering. Ugh.

Has Sly shown up yet or is he still out scoring freebase?

Kanye's speech reminded me of this...

I'm switching to Project Runway now - it's the only show I watch. Toodles!
posted by iconomy 08 February | 20:55
Edge is still cool though.

Lordy, that statement is going to need a lot of supporting evidence that I don't see...

lol at amberglow.
posted by puke & cry 08 February | 21:09
Nomis, I am not even sure why I think that. I just have always felt that Edge was the cool one in the group. Dunno why for sure.
posted by richat 08 February | 21:19
oops---i didn't even see anything behind her except for the boys...

Teri Hatcher looks like a 25cent hooker who's seen better days!

mariah looks wonderful heavier

It never fails to surprise me how plain Kelly Clarkson looks. She's gotten better, but she never manages to pull it up to "gorgeous". Great voice, though.

Paul McCartney was pretty good, especially "Helter Skelter", or at least he was much better than the Stones were at the Super Bowl.

However, it worries me that he's using John Lennon lines, i.e., the "passed the audition" crack. It's either that he's trying to just associate the memory of the line with him instead, or he really doesn't remember at this point what John said or did instead of him.

Jon, they just announced a "historic appearance" by Sly and the Family Stone.
posted by yhbc 08 February | 21:53
Wow. "Historic" now means "12-inch-tall white mohawk".

Ladies and germs, Sly Stone.
posted by yhbc 08 February | 22:08
I just watched. That was tough to see. The tribute was embarassing for all involved. Sly showed a few signs of life near the end, but he looked...just gone. Sad end for a musical visionary.

*cranks mp3 of I Want To Take You Higher."*

Since roughly 90% of the Grammy recipients owe their existence to the innovations sly made 40 years ago, it's nice that they pay tribute, but it also shows how we've squandered his gifts in so many ways.
posted by jonmc 08 February | 22:13
Awww...Sly looked like Stripe from Gremlins.
So so sad.

The Grammies are proof that 99 percent of everything is crap. Watching Paul McCartney was especially difficult - Helter Skelter with a backdrop of a roller-coaster was especially difficult, what with this song orginally being a reference to Charles Manson.

The best thing about the show so far has been John Legend and Madonna's 47-year-old thighs.

Oh, and Teri Hatcher showing up looking like she's been in a prizefight with double-black eyes.

posted by Lipstick Thespian 09 February | 00:31
Helter Skelter isn't about Manson, thespie. Manson interpreted the song as being a harbinger of upcoming race riots, which he referred to as "Helter Skelter."
posted by jrossi4r 09 February | 00:41
Yep -- as Bono once said about "Helter Skelter," "This is a song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles. We're stealing it back."

Having said that I haven't watched the Grammys in years, and even with the promise of a Sly Stone appearance, I still couldn't bring myself to do it tonight. In fact, I've pretty much abandoned all awards shows except for the Oscars, and even that always makes me feel covered in a slight oily sheen of self-loathing for a few days afterwards. (Says the woman who still watches Survivor!)

Thank god, because that means there's still hope for us regular people. She rocks. I hope she never succumbs to going under the knife - we don't need any more plastic "gorgeous" people.

Teri Hatcher's dress was pretty but her makeup was horrendous.

Another reason for me thinking Bono is a goof. Who is he to steal it back? Pompous git. Sheesh.

God doesn't think he's bono.

Badump-dump. I wanted to watch it for sly and to be grossed out by madonnas yoga beef jerky (bless her heart!), but the kid needed extended help with her homework and then I had to watch some episodes of Lost on dvd. THEY ARE STUCK ON AN ISLAND OF MYSTERY.

I had no idea I would like that show so much.

Project Runway was good. The past two weeks though, they eliminated two guys I really liked, and kept Santino, who can't design his way out of a paper bag. He doesn't understand a woman's body at all, always loses sight of the design challenge, and is so freaking arrogant.

Santino is now a verb. When something (not necessarily clothing) is over the top or has way too much going on (like having ridiculously elaborate wedding decorations), it's said to be "santinoed", which is hysterical if you watch the show.

I like Daniel - too cute. I can't seen Santino or the Australian girl winning (she's too wishy-washy and easily influenced) so the winner is probably either Daniel or Chloe.

I'm sure this is really fascinating to anyone who doesn't watch the show. Which is probably most of you.
posted by iconomy 09 February | 10:44
then Teri Gatcher was Santino'd by her stylist, for sure.

Great. They've gotten to you, too.

I know I'm out of touch with modern music when I heard that U2 had won for record of the year and the first thing I said to myself was "U2 has a new record out?" I couldn't remember the name.

I watched all of about 30 seconds of the show, so I missed damn near everything, not that it have mattered (see above). I would have liked to have seen Mariah, though. She's much better looking at her current size.

Least of my problems bro, now do you want to talk about how Jews for Jesus can change your life or not?
