My Turn for Dream Analysis I dreamt about gorillas and a lion last night ~ what does it meeeeeeean? [More:] Here's the dream as it happened. I work for a zoo in a shopping mall. In the center of the mall is a large open field, and the roof is open around it. The fences have been taken down for construction, so I have to walk some animals on leashes to give them exercise. I am fairly blase about this job. I have two small gorillas (at least, I call them gorillas, but they looked more like baboons) and a lion to walk. The lion is fine; he is obedient and sweet and stays right on his leash, but one of the gorilla leashes breaks. I send my son, who is there kind of playing around in the field with a friend, back to the zoo office to get another gorilla leash - I have to yell at him because he isn't moving fast enough. While he's gone I realize that I have two nice new leashes in an ornate Japanese bamboo holder anyway. I go to put them on the gorillas, but as I do this I drop their old, frayed, creepy leashes and they run away.

I chase them through several doors and into a sort of warehouse looking room. I still have the lion on the leash with me. There are three people in the warehouse. I ask them if they've seen two gorillas. Yeah. says a blonde woman. We saw them. I realize that the only way I'm going to get any information from her is if I ask her extremely specific questions, so I do. Finally we narrow down that the gorillas ran out the loading dock door. The other two people in the warehouse are watching them play across the street. It's dark outside and you can barely see the gorillas in the light from the streetlights. The people in the warehouse say that the gorillas deserve to be free and I shouldn't try to catch them. I say I'll lose my job, and they just look at me.
The gorillas represent sexual passion, a passion that you are trying to recapture. The lion is just there because lions are rad.

A bird [lion] in the hand is worth two [gorillas] in the bush?

It means you have children that are growing up.

Not knowing anything about you, really, I'd have to agree with lipstsick thespian. I tend to believe that what the symbols in dreams mean to *you* is more important than just generic symbolism, but animals for the most part represent children (or major projects/desires). Cats, especially for women, can be sexuality/feminine power/sense of self.

So it sounds like basically you've got yourself well-behaved and reined in, and the old ways of reining in your kids (the gorillas) may not be working, and you're unsure about how to work out new restrictions/rules (the new leashes). And maybe you're asking your son for help, but he's not answering you quickly enough?

Wow, that's really interesting and probably pretty accurate - and I didn't see it at all. I thought it had something to do with anxiety about this new job I might be getting and leaving behind my sweet, sweet - if financially awful - state of unemployment laziness. But this is all true about my kids and my son is in (very minor) trouble at school again, so hmmmm.

Maybe it's a bit of both, and you're worried about your new job's possible effects on your kids or your relationship with your kids?
