This is really interesting, matteo. It's quite a project.
I remember the old Dojunkai apartments. I used to frequent a coffee shop across the street (I forget why - I think they had a really great deal on ice cream parfaits). Through a mutual friend, I visited a couple who lived there.
It seemed more open or homey than most Japanese apartment blocks. Maybe it was the constant foot traffic on Omotesando that just gave the futons drying on the balconies a bohemian air, maybe it was the tree-lined drive, but it definitely was unlike anywhere else in Tokyo.
Then again, maybe that's because few buildings in Tokyo are 75 years old.
Looks like things will change, but Omotesando will still be different.
My non-Japanese-speaking friends called it "Old Moldy Sandals" to help remember the station stop.
