Checking in with the quitters! [More:]How's everybody doing? I'm on day four and it's not as bad as I thought. Not pleasant, but not horrid.

I've bummed a few and bought one pack, but I'm mostly doing ok.

I have not smoked a cigarette since about 1:30 am on January first. I've had about 11 cigars all told between then and now.

I spent last night mainlining happiness. I FEEL FANTASTIC!

And ridiculously tired, slightly hung over, and TREMENDOUS!

Keep up the good work!

Hugh,
Don't quit that. Stay hooked, ya big palooka.

Hey guys,

I didn't know there were quitters around. Quitting is one of my favorite topics. I smoked for 15 years, then quit about 3 1/2 years ago and have never looked back. It was tough. I devoted most of my attention to quitting for a few months.

But it is so, so, so worth it. If you need someone to tell you that, e-mail me anytime. I wish you all great luck. What you're doing for yourselves is a tremendous gift.

And if it doesn't work out this time, just try again soon. On average, it takes people between 4 and 7 honest tries before they make a final quit.

Yeah. Once I fell I never got back on the wagon. I'll try again when I get some other things in my life worked out.

I smoked on new years eve (quite in feb) and I want a whole pack of mt pall mall ciggies right now.

Ugh, my thesis defense got pushed back to sometime in march X( so my quit date is concomittantly delayed.

rrrrrgggggh

I would also like to mention that I still hate quitting, hate not smoking and find the notion of never having another cigarette as long as I live terribly depressing. However, these feelings arrive about twice an hour as opposed to twice a minute, so that's pretty good.

dilettante. I freebase it. Told you I was hardcore...

Divine Wino: Those eprisodes will continue to slow down in frequency until they become very rare. At this point, I get an odd urge to smoke only every few months when very stressed. And it's a weak urge, because I'm free of the addiction now, and the impetus never to go back to life as a tobacco slave is a lot stronger than the urge itself.

Also, it helps not to think about "the rest of your life" and just think about today, this week, etc. Whatever happens tomorrow is tomorrow. If you find you just can't live without smoking on some future day, you willgo back to it, so there's no point worrying about what you'll do and how you'll feel in the days to come. Today's the only thing you have control over. Big thanks to the world's recovering alcoholics; they taught us this.

Oh I day by day it constantly. I actually enjoy a bit of misery now and again so I indulge such thoughts on purpose. Perversity is my watchword.

Good for you, Hugh, you scalliwag.

I'm still smokin'. Less, ok, yeah, less. Four or five a day. Except when it's more. So, yeah.

Who would have thunk that the Wino would be the strongest of the lot? Hooray for you, divine one!

I'm lucky that I had the luxury of pretty much knocking myself out for the first couple of days. It's made things a lot easier.

I would have thought the wino would be the strongest of the lot. Don't let the good looks fool ya kiddo, I'm a toothchipper.

Wisdom teeth extraction, right? How'd it go?
posted by porpoise 03 February | 17:15
It went really well, actually. Thanks for asking!

Backslid like a mutha'. However, I no longer buy packs and I'm down to what I can bum off of people... mostly a certain coworker of mine...

Alas, I think that if I'm truly going to quit, I need to stop hanging out with jonmc. ^_~

That's awesome jrossi4r. I guess you either had relatively uncomplicated dino/neanderthal teeth or your got a really good surgeon.

Buddy of mine got his out Wednesday. Seemed fine a few hours afterwards. Heck - we drove him to Wendy's so he could pick up some nuggets of chicken to nibble on.

The next day - ugh - too bad we didn't get around to briefing him on how to pass as being T3-ineligible and get himself on some better meds until after-the-fact. He's better today, though.

Good on the quitters! It is a great gift for yourself.

jrossi4r, glad your pull was complication free!
