Hotel ideas in Portland, OR? →[More:]I'm getting together a Mecha PDX price quote for the meetup in February (train costs, hotels, etc.), and want any advice local Mechas can give about what's cheap, near to where we'll be, etc. Also, if anyone's up for hosting, let me know (unless by "hosting" you mean "snogging", then I'll let the respective parties be.)

Look for a hotel near the convention centre, like this place or this place. They're on the side of the river near the meetup, and they should be cheaper than actually staying downtown. Then you just have to take the #6 bus down to SE Hawthorne, and walk a few blocks up to the Lucky Lab. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

the Jupiter Hotel is a really spiffy, hipster hotel attached to a club and restaurant on the east side. The area is walking distance to many nice spots.

I likes me this Jupiter - looks like the club attached actually gets some good music, also.

However, guest rooms are cheaper. I will investigate.

The place used to be a run down 50's fantastic style motor in, but it was given the Ikea-chic treatment. Now now the club/restaurant looks like you've stepped into a copy of Dwell Magazine. It's UberKool. I saw Sleater Kinney there last year, and can attest to the good quality of the music venue.

The Portland International Hostel on Hawthorne is a fun and funky place and it's walking distance from the Lucky Lab. It also sports a major wifi node that covers a couple of blocks.

With George_Spiggott on the int'l hostel. Probably cheaper and more fun than a hotel, anyway. Hostels have always done right by me in all my hippie concert-going endeavors.
