If it's true that everybody gets fifteen minutes of fame, Mr. Frey is at 14:59 and counting. Let me put it this way: whan's the last time someone mentioned Milli Vanilli to you as something other than the punchline to a joke?

Amberglow, I could be wrong but I thought the book came out first. I think one of Oprah's assistants gave her the book.

Supposedly he shopped the book around as fiction before changing it to a memoir. It's just like the Amityville Horror or the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, if you attach "true story" onto it, it'll sell.

This is all fodder for his next book. Man, I hate that asshole.

And yeah, the book came out first, then Oprah chose it for her book club. Apparently, people from Hazeldon (the rehab clinic he was in) contacted her early on to say that he was lying about how he potrayed rehab in the book, so her people contacted Frey's publishers, who -- surprise -- assured her that it was all true. So brilliantly, tragically, puke-encrustedly true.

Why the fuck haven't they scrapped it? Memoir doesn't have to be linear, but it has to be true.

I saw Frey read with a classmate from Iowa before the Oprah pick; very subdued and left early because he claimed his wife had just had a baby.

they also lied to those who questioned Frey's bullshit, claiming their legal dept had verified the story. shame, shame on them.

having said that, Winfrey should have known better -- the stories were just too improbable, for God's sake.
