The Monks On TV (Embedded Video). Rare action footage of one of the great lost Proto-Punk Bands.
And if that's not enough, here's Werner Hass early 60's German version of 'Witch Doctor.' Or as I like to think of it. The Teutonic Rock and Roll Rodents of Doom.

Mmmm, neato. Thanks for this. I'm excited to watch it, as I gently fondle my Black Monk Time original pressing on vinyl. Yes.

Can I come over to your place and....um, contemplate it? (my copy is on CD)

The Monks have been popping up a LOT in my MP3 player lately... and now this. I've never actually SEEN them before, though I'd read about the shaved spots on the tops of their heads. Heh heh!! This rocks.

I loaned my copy of the book about the Monks to a geek buddy who used to haunt Moonies (a great store back in Bridgeport). I never got it back, but thankfully I still have the music. The bands story is a great one though, rivaled only by the Plastic People Of The Universe (who also made some great rock and roll).

As long as contemplation does not require touching, that's fine by me. I only let people touch it when I'm drunk. THE RECORD, I mean.

Hooray for the Monks.

Wow! Thanks! Black Monk Time has been a library staple of mine for years!

man, i would've loved to have the Monks blow my mind back in the day. I've seen a really rowdy vid I think from the same German TV show. I've been searching for it all night - sorry but i cannot find it. They do a 3-person guitar solo - 3 people, one guitar. Just beyond words. 1966.

While searching, I found this: Alec (Empire) starts collaboration with Russell Simins (drummer with Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) and Gary Burger (original member of The Monks)! Even better, it's for a documentary on them. Here's the trailer.

wow, that was great. i especially like the girl about half way through who looks like she's asking her dance partner, "what the hell is this? how do you dance to this?" that's how i'm interpreting it anyway. thanks for all the links.
