22 January 2006

Not exactly a competitive weekend in general, was it?

I look forward to the Tatupu / Polamalu throwdown two weeks from now.

I'm supporting the seahawks. Actually, I'm rooting against the steelers, but it amounts to the same thing, huh?

The Steelers will flatten you. Just accept it.

I'm not really looking forward to the wall-to-wall hype for the next two weeks but the Steelers are a great damn football team. This town gets a little out of hand when its sports teams are winning. Every man, woman, child, dog, statue, building and bridge in Pittsburgh will be decked out in black and gold until the superbowl. People who move here from other parts of country (like me) can get a little freaked out by the overwhelming pre-occupation with sports here, but after a few years they give in and start waving their terrible towels with everyone else. Oh and our Steelers are totally going to kick Seattle's but.

We'll see what happens.

Somebody explain to me how Carolina went from 400+ yards of offense against the number two defense in the league to the complete trainwreck that was this evening's performance? I mean, how bizarre is that? Anyway, yay 'Hawks.

I hadn't seen Carolina play all year, but I'd heard a lot of good things bout their offense. The Hawks did a hell of a job shutting them down, but there a couple of interceptions where I thought maybe Delhomme had decide to throw the game. So I dunno. It's nice to see the team throw off the Seachicken mantle at last. We'll see what happens in Detroit, own't we?

I'm a sad Broncos fan tonight (I think we need to put Denver's blitz on a milk carton or something), but being the die-hard AFC fan I am (exception: motherfucking Raiders) I'll definitely be rooting for the Steelers in two weeks. Plus I'd like to see Bill Cowher get to shake off that "best coach who never won the Superbowl" albatross.

But for now: *heavy, Charlie Brown-like sigh*

I wadn't aware of this game until my parents called yesterday and said they were settling in to watch it... and, for posterity, I went on record as supporting Seattle. Sorry, konolia, moonbird, mygoth!

I will always root for the NFL team against the AFL team, so even though the 'Hawks beat my beloved Deadskins, I hope they win the superbowl. Plus I can better harp on the "my team lost to the eventual champion" saw.

But "haters: suck it?" What are you, some kinda republican? Is there really a hater around every corner?

Seahawks (hometown) vs. Steelers (old fave of mine): I might actually watch this game.

Two main things: The Bears thought they could single cover Steve Smith, they were most definitely incorrect. Seattle had 2,3 and 4 guys in his area or on him all day. Second was no DeShaun Foster and losing Goings early in the game, winding up playing their 4th string RB. No Foster meant Smith was all Carolina had.

Should be a good Super Bowl, my pick would be the Steelers.

Re: haters, etc.: Seattle has a love/contempt thing for their sporting teams. This is the first year I haven't heard anyone refer to them as the Seachickens. Also, they don't generally get a lot of respect in the national press. At least, not that I've seen. Also also, I was riffing on iconomy, who has put the expression to good comedic use. Put them all together and they spell "suck it". YMMV.

What are you, some kinda republican?

Sir, you cut me to the quick.
