Duly downloaded - thanks! Meanwhile, in a complete non sequitur, I am looking for a song called Brother John is Gone and my google fu is failing me but I swear I remember it from maybe CCR or something like that, or possibly the Neville Brothers, a slow & bluesy song with the chorus Brother John is Gone.
Why am I looking for this song? Because I just came back from my Uncle Jack's funeral and the priest kept on referring to him as John, even though nobody in his whole life had ever called him anything but Jack, and then the priest said Brother John a couple times and so, even during the creepy jingling bells they use to announce the eucharist & the soprano doing my least favorite hymns and everything I had this fragment of song stuck in the back of my head.
I'm sorry to hear about your uncle, mgl. The song you're looking for does ring a very faint bell for me, but I'm afraid I'm not gonna be of much help. I'll poke around and see what I can find.
Right now, I'm eating an Entemann's cupcake (cake first, then the frosting in one big hunk), drinking a beer and listening to Del Shannon's 'Little Town Flirt'*
a winning combination, all in all.

Yeah - I googled it and the only thing I found was a fast jazzy song and the one I remember was slow. Hmmm. I asked one of my cousins at the reception and he couldn't think of it, but then my cousins aren't very musical. Thanks y'all, he was 95, so it wasn't unexpected - it was his time. He was a sweet guy though.
First full mass I've been to in a long time - they've changed all the words again.
jonmc - the wild magnolia's version of "brother john is gone" is available on the OUR NEW ORLEANS Hurricane relief comp that just came out last year. I remember a different (and better) version of the song, but I can't find it on any of the albums or CDs I suspected I'd find it on.
