Animal tales I'm trying to compile a list of classic "tales" that prominently feature animals.→[More:]

For example, "The Three Billy Goats Gruff," "The Three Little Pigs," and the one about the animals that scared off the robbers... I forget the name. Any others?

I doubt this would be considered a "classic"...but I wonder how many "Watership Down" fans there are around this bunny-centric place?

I read it once every couple of years. Always makes this grown man cry.

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Follow My Leader by James B. Garfield

Both are boy and his dogs books, but umm sadder. The Follow My Leader book really devastated me as a kid. It's about a boy who is blinded in an accident. Yikes.

What about Black Beauty?
I don’t know if these are really classic tales, but for younger children, ‘Good Dog, Carl’ by Alexandra Day is great, and I remember loving the ‘Hank the Cowdog’ series by John Erickson.
