09 January 2006

I'm dying The fever is now low grade but I can't breath through my nose which makes it impossible to swallow (no bad jokes) because my throat is dry and feels like sandpaper. Mr. Mucus has moved into my lungs and now I am lying in bed with Vicks and a humidifier. I am pathetic.
[More:]
But after this and the pain from my cough...I'm done with the smoking. This is only the flu and my cough brings tears to my eyes. Can you imagine if it was something worse? I want to die. I guess I should have gotten that flu shot.
Mr. Mucus

Married to Mrs. Phlegm, right?

Yeah...you know those boogers from the Mucinex commercial. I'm on a steady dose of Robitussin but unlike the last time I had the flu (about seven years ago) I am being careful not to OD on the over the counters.

Yo that's what I had. I'm at work now (four days later) and the light makes my eyes feel funny. My throat felt more like a rubber donut was lodged in it (what fiend would make a rubber donut? Who, dammit?), but I felt your pain, baby, and it's no damn good. Liquify and expectorate, and feel better.

Is it at least the good cough syrup with the codeine in it? I've ridden some great codeiene buzzes in my day..

Thanks, HJ. I can't sleep for more than four hours because I wake up in a coughing fit. And now I am lonely and bored. Who wants to use up all their sick days in January. Bastards!!!

I don't have a doctor in NY yet but I've had that cough medicine before and I dreaming of it.

HA! I totally forgot to look when I was in MD. Glad you found it. I'll come back to this thread and listen when I'm at a computer from which I can listen. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

Sorry about the ick, Lola. In an act of true compassion, I am NOT gonna offer to spread the vick's all over your chest.

Nice, jon.

A opiate stupor is the best way to endure any illness, America is a cruel and thoughtless place.

Lola if you had what I had and what my lady had and what every motherfucker had, it's a creeper. You get sick, you get better then throat attack and you get sick again, it's gnarly. I suggest Myers Rum, lemon, honey, hot water and fevered sleep.
posted by Divine_Wino 09 January | 12:09
Yeah, gnarly is exactly what it is.

I am scared. I do not want this, yet every day another person falls. Did you all have the evil virus last winter? Maybe this one is too close and I am protected.

*pats Lola's head*

I haven't had anything like this in years. All winter I was amazed by how good I have been feeling. Until last week, not even a sniffle.

I can't help you with the other stuff, since it's been a while since I've had a really bad case of the flu, but as far as throat hurting goes, have you tried that sore-throat spray? It's nasty, but it does a good job of numbing the pain, espcially if it feels a bit raw because you're forced to breath though your mouth.

Other than that, get well soon!

Lola, last year I had something really similar. And the way it kept coming back was the same.

Sometimes when it's real bad I go out to the forge, heat up a length of iron just past red, and shove it down my throat. Sears the bejeezus out of the streptococcus!

Ring O Noodle soup. The Lipton dry kind in a box. It is my default sickness food. Feel better soon, Lola.

Oooh poor Lola! Do you have a productive cough or a dry cough? I hate it when your throat is super dry and you can feel the mucus right at the back, where your nose and throat meet, and it just sits there and irritates you, but you can't cough it up and you can't swallow it.

Not that that helps, but I empathise. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sitting here at work hacking up a lung or two. : ( I don't think I'm feverish or anything but the throat is really bugging me.

I've also gotten a bottle of L-Lysine in hopes of staving off cold sores. I'm very prone to them (especially at this time of the month - I know, TMI) and I've got a convention in a couple weeks...I usually get them when I have something big about to happen! Let's hope that helps.

Lola_G, spicy chicken soup (tom yum gai, etc) does a super job of soothing, expectorating and decongesting. Plus, it's tasty and if you make it spicy enough you actually will be able to taste it.

Hope you feel better, soon!

Bummer Lola I feel your pain. I say follow Hugheys advice to liquify and expectorate - and Mucinex does the trick, get some soon. Best wishes girl.

That is exactly what I had last week. I'm still a little under the weather; this is a week long kind of thing. I got antibiotics on Friday; until then it was steadily downhill. The doctor also told me to take Musinex or whatever it's spelled, and it *did* help.

And for the record, I *had* my flu shot.
