Morningwood I know some of you already heard me say this on IRC and play it on my radio set, but this is the song that's going to be blasting out of dorm rooms and a guilty pleasure for indie snobs during the first quarter of 2006.[More:] It's pure bubblegum pop, and extremely catchy. The video is goofy and funny, and I also like seeing a sexy female lead singer whose dress size is actually in the double digits (maybe jonmc would actually brave the music just to get a look at her curves). Here's another place where you can view this video and the one for Jetsetter (fans of curvy girls will need to take a cold shower after this one), and here's an MP3 of Nth Degree.
I actually quite liked it (song & video, both. The record cover gags are very funny, considering my job). and yes, the singer is tres hawt.

Jon, take a look at the jetsetter video.

I did. Yum.

(also, I guess the tradition didn't die with "Hey ya.")

They should have held back the release for a few months; that song has got "summer" written all over it.

Morningwood opened for Gang Of Four here in Atlanta last October, and I thought they were a hoot. Thanks for the MP3- I like that song a lot.

I know, it's a total summer song. In a few months when I do a swap CD called Random Summer Drive 2, I'll make sure to put that on there (if I'm not sick of it by then).

I had never heard of them until last night, matildaben, when I was looking at what you were listening to at last.fm. I like your radio plays, so I downloaded some Morningwood, and love that song.

Song didn't do anything for me (maybe because I really don't like that nth degree phrase).

The female lead looks like that Osbourne whelp in some shots.

Wow, iconomy, I didn't know you cared. *snif*

(and fwiw, matilda there's some indie stuff that I love. my next music post is about the great lost indie bands of the 80's)

It's possible that you had to be there, but this made me laugh.

That Osbourne whelp is gonna be a heartbreaker when she grows up.

Kelly Osbourne will never be beautiful. Then again, who says she has to be?

Huh. This band had never really impressed me the couple of times I caught them on the radio. But this is a fun track. Thanks!

I was rather surprised when I saw them as the LAUNCH "Who's Next?" artist. They seemed kinda indie for LAUNCH.

Yeah -- the record cover gag is actually funny, even though they ripped it off from Liz Phair's "Why Can't I?" where it was somehow not very funny (and not well matched to the song). And the timing of the video gags was pretty good, cutely tweaking the whole stealing-licks-from-the-record-bin zeitgeist.

On the other hand, I remembered that when I saw this, I thought of the argument that whenever a band does a song with the word "Rock" in the title, it's that band's worst song. It would be a shame if they were a one-hit wonder with the self-promotional sing-along.

She's yummay! And I always like songs about turning up the radio. An awful lot of ring wear on some of those sleeves, however. VG++.

Fantastic songs, witty videos and yes, gorgeously curvy singer. Thank you, matildaben!

(The last fm personal radio thing is seriously awesome. I've listened to stilicho's radio and iconomy's too and have found some lovely things that way. You're next!)

I'd like to offer a small prize to the person who can collect the most instances of the phrase "J-pop inflected" in Morningwood reviews over the next 6 months.
