Because all of us slaving on the j-o-b need a boost right now, here's one of the three or four greatest songs in the history of recorded sound: Cheap Trick - Surrender
I lived in Rockford, IL for 4ish years, and would see Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander every once in awhile, especially around the holidays. Good classic rock and roll!
This goes beyond classic rock, dude. This is close to audio salvation. It's one of a select few songs, that if you don't like it, I can only assume that you're either deaf or have no soul.
This, along with a couple of Velvet Underground songs, was played every single fucking day by one of my friends in college. Which wouldn't have been a problem except that he was my housemate, and his stereo was behind my bed (thru the wall).
It's a testament to this song that I still like it. I hate the Velvet Underground ones.
"Mommie's alright! Daddy's alright!/
And I kinda look like the lead sin-ger!
Whatever, Whatever/
I think it was their first da-ate/
Da-ate! No Way! No Way!"
When I was a kid, there musta been some state law that required that all music store cut-out bins have at least a dozen cassettes of "Live at Budokan". Hence I always assumed Cheap Trick sucked. Thank you for setting me straight, jonmc.
triode, you poor culturally deprived human being. From here, get a hold of "I Want You To Want Me," and keep going from there. As for the cutout bins, things that wind up there in excess are usually stuff that was once popular. Things become popular for reasons, my friend. Consider Cheap Trick a case in point and keep digging. Next step, Mountain. Trust me.
I saw these guys open for Kiss. They weren't named of the tickets and knew one had ever heard of them but they open with Hello There and wrapped with I Want You (too want me) and blew everyone away. Great live band.
Yeah, Cheap Trick spent a few years on the embarrassing party-band circuit (I live upriver from Rockford), but they seem to have recovered with the nostalgia boom.
