Announcing the MetaChat Book of the Month for January. You have selected to read Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro.[More:] Our moderator will be oh pollo!
Kazuo Ishiguro's An Artist of the Floating World
-Italo Calvino's If on a Winter's Night a Traveler
Ben Mezrich's Bringing down the House
-Jose Saramago's Blindness
---Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go
Rebecca Solnit's A Field Guide to Getting Lost

I don't know where all the votes went this month. We had more nominations then votes. I guess everyone was on holiday.

"more nominations than votes"

Seriously, I proofread. This monitor is getting so blurry I can't tell my vowels apart with a magnifying glass. Anyone want to buy me a new 19" Trinitron?

I loved that book. I would be delighted to discuss it. It, like Cloud Atlas, is another one that I don't think my regular book club could really handle.

Hmm, I listened to this on audiobook, but I guess that for the purposes of a book club, I should probably read it for real. It was good; really haunting.

Also: I'm having a hard time conceiving of a book club that can't handle Cloud Atlas. What kind of things do they read?

Surriously. What do they read?

They read a lot of good stuff but generally stick to realism - quite a few people can't really handle anything they perceive as "science fiction".

The Bitches of Madison County.
The Importance of Being Ernest.
A Tale of Two Titties.
And the liner notes to Tom Sawyer.

I'm #19 of 19 holds at the Brooklyn Public Library for Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. I may not get the book by the time you all discuss it.

You guys do realize that this book doesn't come out in paperback until March 14, 2006? And the cheapest used one on Amazon is $13.99.

I adore this book and I'd love to discuss it, but the price may make it less accessible to people who that matters to.

I did suggest that we go for some titles freely available online. At my library, this book's not due back until the 24th. I might be able to get it by interlibrary loan, but if not, I'm going to have to sit this one out.

I'll take that into consideration next month. Thanks, ~.
