Hug me? I just had a fight with my father and would appreciate a virtual hug. Sorry, I'm not that active a MeCha member but try to bear with me.

At least I know that there's always somebody to rely on a hug in MetaChat. And my only resolution for 2006 was to be more active in MeFi, MeCha et al. :)

Did the self-imposed excommunication thing myself, for about a year. The old man had an entirely new respect for treating me as an equal and an adult after that. PITA that it took such an extreme measure to clue him in.

Over the years, my pops and I have gone from my having to walk out on Thanksgiving dinner because of the accumulated bad vibes to actually being able to carry on a civil conversation. The trick, for us, was to stick to relatvely neutral topics: sports, weather, the vagaries of raising cattle, mocking Republicans, etc. Here's hoping you and your father can reach a similar detente, keijo. Oh, and a manly hug.

I think the manly half-hug is that kind of thing where a straight guy will put his arm around another straight guy and give his shoulder a squeeze, but they are still facing the same direction or at least a 60 degree angle, so their chests are not touching. Sometimes accompanied by a slap on the back or three.
