Now with less flavour! So two products, a mouthwash and a gum have been launched in my market (and maybe yours, I dunno), both proudly proclaiming "NOW! With Less Intense Taste!"[More:] My current working theory is that more people are quitting smoking these days, and their newly sensitive tastebuds were shocked and awed by the old, more intense, versions.

Thoughts?
Anything that's overly zingy is unbearable for me, with mouthwash, toothpaste, and gum being the three most obvious examples. So I say hurrah hurrah to the new, less improved versions!

I did used to smoke, but my last puff was about 10 years ago.

They're just on the lookout for lawsuits brought by the flavor-sensitive. If there is a low-flavor option available, an entrepreneurial lawyer might have trouble making a discrimination case.

I'm with iconomy. I use Tom's toothpaste and avoid gum, candy, etc. They just taste chemically to me.

But I also think they'll try and market anything.

I think it might be due to the fact that they are better able now to hide the really medicinal, strong or bitter flavors of stuff like Listerine and certain toothpastes. But they don't want to come out and say, "Hey! We don't taste like pickled ass anymore!" So they have to use words like "less intense".

I think its funny that Doritos say "Now better tasting"...

What makes me think...we used to taste like ass but now we're okay!

Lola, I think of Doritos that way, actually.
They used to taste like ass.
Now, given enough food and a lack of options, I may eat one or two at a party if I have a beer to wash the taste out of my mouth with.

I have a recipe I've never made involving Cool Ranch Doritos as a cornmeal breading for fried chicken. Or maybe Cool Ranch hush puppies.

The term "Regular Flavor" on toothpaste, chips, gum et al has always intrigued me. What exactly does this particular flavor come from, the regular plant?

My New Year's resolution is to live life with less intensity. I'm tossing all my bottles of tabasco and replacing them with cream of mushroom soup.
