Some Callahan. Because I'm in the mood. [More:]

Bill Callahan's long been one of my favorite musicians and songwriters. He brought me much comfort this year with his records and live performance.

If you haven't heard of him, I hope you'll give some tracks a listen. If you're already a fan I think you'll find some tracks that you don't already have. Either way, enjoy!

Look Now (from Held ep)
Say Valley Maker (from A River Ain't Too Much Love)
I Break Horses (peel session) (from Cold Blooded Old Times ep)
Vessel in Vain (from Supper)
Permanent Smile (from Dongs of Sevotion)
Coacheecayoo (from 'Neath the Puke Tree)

All songs available on above releases by Smog.
I was hoping for this Callahan.

jon, me too!

But this is very nice, dobbs.

Thanks, dobbs! I grabbed the other tunes you put up for download, but haven't gotten to them as I'm knee deep in making some mix cd's at the moment. They're all on the short list, though.

It also looks like Number 11 here is still up.

Ohoh, and I meant to add the I really like "Let Me See The Colts" that you linked to a while ago. I have it on several playlists that I cycle through, so thanks again.

I like the way your moods swing dobbs. Downloading with thanks. Also thanks for the Oldham yesterday. Also thanks for that thing... you know... or probably you don't. It's okay though.

jon, not a fan of that callahan. Actually, forgot he'd existed as I hadn't seen anything by him in about 13 years or so. Weren't they going to make a movie of his life starring William Hurt? Something like that.

gramschimdt, I wasn't familiar with that site but I gotta say I thought their picks were dreadful. I listened to 5 or 6 of them and thought they were terrible--and the Callahan they chose is easily the least impressive song at that album, imo.

Frisbee, Let Me See The Colts is probably my fave song of the year.

And panoptican, you're welcome. Especially for that other thing.

dobbs -- Yep, the StG list is very spotty. It's attempting some misguided "There's genius in throwaway pop, too, I swear!" thing, which is doomed to failure. I was just pointing to another FR33 Smog track, while you were on the subject.

For what it's worth, though, I quite like this, especially if you've heard the original.

gramschmidt, yeah that track's okay, though I'm not much of a Stars fan. Toronto people are gaga over them and they just don't do it for me--well, they generally have 1 or 2 awesome songs per album and the rest are pretty pedestrian.

Throwaway pop is pointless when there's so much great pop around. Actually, I think I'll make a pop post. I'm in the mood.
