Vote Now! For the MeCha book club book of the January![More:]

The Nominees are:
Kazuo Ishiguro's An Artist of the Floating World
Italo Calvino's If on a Winter's Night a Traveler
Ben Mezrich's Bringing down the House
Jose Saramago's Blindness
Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go
Rebecca Solnit's A Field Guide to Getting Lost

I'm not sure about having two books by the same author, but since we didn't have many nominations this month, I figure there's no harm. But if we pick one of Ishiguro's books this month and the other comes in second, third place gets the BYE instead next month.

Voting will be by 'secret' ballot. Please e-mail me at vote@thefourth.net with your selection. Please indicate your MeCha username in the e-mail. Voting is open until the end of the month. Announcement will be made first week of January.
I won't vote because I'd be happy with any of them. I read Never Let Me Go a few months ago and loved it. I read Blindness a few years ago and don't know if I liked it, but it was certainly interesting, and would be good to discuss. Any of the others would be fine too.

Is it too late to nominate nominees?

Yes, it is.

the Ishiguros sound interesting--i've never read anything by him. Blindness is an incredible book tho--just amazingly great and powerful.

I'm going to post a prelim thread for Cloud Atlas during the holidays, with an official one on New Year's Day. Email me any things you want to discuss or ideas--i've never been in a book club and don't know how to run it...

I'm only on Chapter 3 of Cloud Atlas. Is New Year's day the absolute deadline for finishing it?

Cloud Atlas will be discussed first non-holiday weekend in January.

warbaby: my nomination was an essay collection (hence, nonfiction)
