The Long-Awaited Death of Prog Just as a reminder, I'll be playing my überlist of die progressif musik one last time tonight for you Left Coasters, between 7pm PST and midnight same time zone.[More:]

In more exciting news, I am working on a totally new, mindblowing playlist I hope to spin before I leave the country for warmer climes. Pursuant to that, does anyone have:

* Stevie Nicks avec Tom Petty - Stop Draggin' My Heart Around and
* Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike?

I'll keep you apprised if any other tracks I'm missing come to mind. I'm trying to do this set with purely what's on my computer, but some songs are just necessary to the theme. Between my three hard drives and I, I think I've got this thing on lockdown.

Also, I'm leaving around the 21st, so we'll be doing nominations this weekend for January's book, with the voting taking place over the week when I'm gone. I'll announce the winner around New Year's, whenever I stumble home.

Geez, this is getting long like an lj entry. Music, books... what would you people do without me to provide entertainment?
And don't say masturbate.

I have the Temple of The Dog track at home. The Nicks & Petty only on vinyl.

For what it's worth, I'm currently listening to the fledgling playlist and let me assure you, it does indeed excel far past the levels of awesome ordinarily available to me, what with my abridged third edition of the thesaurus.

I'd listen to Udu Wudu a good dozen times or so.

Five hours, wow, that's like ten songs or something innit?

I was thinking of doing a Magma post a while ago for Mefi. Here's a video of a bit of "De Futura".

Thanks for the video. Those dudes were looking intense.

I've just tried out .ogg files and they seem to play just fine. Was someone asking about that? I tested WinAMP as the source and WMP as the player/receiver. I could hear it on WMP even when pulling the volume all the way down on WinAMP.

Has there ever been a more photogenic prog band?

What the hell? How did I double my post like that? And whatever happened to this picture?

Sorry for messing things up like that.

I'm going to change your name to Sploo Janus if you keep mucking up my nice, clean thread, young man!

But inside, I'm laughing.

If you ever ever get the opportunity to see Magma live, do. They came to London a couple of years ago and I saw them in a small auditorium on the South Bank. They were mindblowing. I had tears of joy in my eyes for a lot of it and an unending urge to rush the stage and give them all a big hug. Then we we went for pizza.

DVDs are in the works.

Magma are also releasing DVDs of a series of concerts they did a few years ago, in which, on successive nights, Klaus Blasquiz, Jannick Top, and Benoit Widemann guested with the current band.

They've been playing tons and tons of shows in France, the fuckers.

A hit of Magma, my favourite: Kohntark Part Two (sadly, I can't be bothered to type the umlaut): http://s13.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0ARRT4LATW3P40H1K75SMJ0V0U
