Things to do with a doctor's examination table... ? And anyone know how I can get my hands on some school lockers? [More:]

So a while ago I bought a doctor's scale, which has been a hit with visitors and I quite like it. I'm now told I have access to a doctor's examination table. It would cost me $60 to pick it up but otherwise it's free. I'm trying to think of what to do with such an item but am kinda drawing blanks. It may make a kickass credenza... or that may be the stupidest idea I've ever thought of.

Any modifications, alterations, or (non-kinky) uses you can think of for such an item? I doubt I'll have an opportunity to get another one and will kick myself if I miss out on it and then something occurs to me.

Also, I hate coat racks. But I need one as a big pile of coats and boots in the hallway is lame. So, I thought that a bank of 2 or 3 school lockers might be a neat and more sightly way to handle the problem. However, how the hell would I acquire such a thing? I doubt calling the Toronto School Board would work out well as it would be red tape land. Obviously, I don't want to buy new ones as I imagine they're not cheap.

Suggestions on either problem?
This triple gym locker at eBay sounds like the perfect solution, and the auction is over today, and they ship worldwide. The lockers will probably go pretty cheaply, but I have the feeling shipping is going to be about 200 dollars for you.

Can you link to a photo that looks somewhat like the doctor's table? I'm having trouble remembering what they look like.

Yeah, for lockers like that you probably won't find a better deal than eBay IF it is near enough that you can pick them up. Shipping something that large is $$$.

If the doctor's table is the kind with the drawers (I assume it is) it could be handy to store things in, and actually wouldn't look too bad if you gave it a spiffy paint job (I further assume it is metal like most are), but I have no good ideas for using it.

I have one bad idea - get a dummy or a big stuffed bear or something and put him on it and make it look like a torture rack. *shrug*

Most exam tables have the top cushion area that comes up on one end, which gives you more possibilities for using it as a funky decoration. I think you could come up with some use for it if the thing IS one of the big metal ones with drawers. If not, the possibilities are more limited.

Check the surplus and salvage dealers. If you're near any metro area, there should be some available. Ask around at the industrial / commercial used furniture dealers.

For the examination table, I'd say get it (if you have space) and see how it works out. Many of them have storage inside. If it doesn't work out, you can always sell it to someone kinky.

I have my monitor on a hospital bed table so I can lie in my recliner (Buckaroo the cat is the keyboard support) with my feet up. Works like a charm. I dunno why anybody would want to compute any other way.

Sorry, that came off the wrong way. It looks like you already know about Craigslist. Carry on.

You guys are great! I would love some store-style magazine racks in which to display some of my comic book collection. Can anyone help?

Wow, thanks for all the answers.

I had checked google (but added "Toronto" as it's not something I want to ship) and eBay (canada) with no luck.

I'm amazed I missed the CL one though, thanks matildaben. I check CL like 10 times a day, no joke. I'll see if I can haggle with that person for one set as $500 is too much for a coat rack.

The guy selling the doctor's table doesn't have a picture but he said "Looks like any doctor's table!" when I asked. I assume it looks similar to this though he says it has drawers and cabinets so I assume they're on the long side instead of the short.

I also assume it has a vinyl seating area on top that can adjust, though I'm waiting for confirmation on that. And yes, weretable, it's metal and I would probably paint it.

Eideteker, this place has a magazine rack for $25 but you have to be "state certified" whatever that means--and this place has a bunch of different styles.

Eideteker, this place sells the cool revolving wire kind, plus other types.

Ooooo look at the nice lucite one! I think that would be so cool. You could have a constanly changing exhibition of comics.
