Stupid Question Time: I don't understand IRC. →[More:] I've never used it before, and I want to try. I downloaded some software (ircle)- so now how do I get to #metachat? Assume I know nothing.

heh. I'm just old enough to have used IRC before there were any alternatives for group chat. It was that or Unix talk, which was just person-to-person.

Back then I used IRC primarily to find open PBXes, codes, relays etc. in order to download warez from the quality West Coast BBSes without racking up long distance charges.

Yeah, that's what I did for fun in 7th and 8th grade. Kinda sad.
