I didn't want it to be true. →[More:]But I've succumed to the notion that the post &/or comment quality has slid on a more consistent basis on mefi. Examples from a single day alone here and here.

Am I a snob? Has my sense of humor evaporated? Do I need to shave my armpits? What?

How many times are people going to decry the latest MeFi "trend"? Invariably, it's just an inaccurate generalization. There's good, and there's bad. There have always been crap posts, and they get deleted. So what? For five bucks, I enjoy the site immensely. I mean I spent $9.75 to see a really crappy movie the other day.

It can seem bad, but then someone like pigpen leaves two comments in that thread that send me into total, delightful hysterics and I forgive mefi for anything and everything. I love those comments so much that metafilter can now go and disembowel puppies and I will nod understandingly.

Well, that was me but it was not meant as looking down on MetaChat, just saying that it was a link creating interesting discussion but the post itself was not really FPP material, i.e. this is Meta_Chat_ after all, right? Apologies from someone who does not participate that much but tries to when he has time.

It's ok, keijo. No need to apologize. I believe you when you say it was not your intention to imply anything negative about Metachat and I apologize for singling you out. It's just that I've seen several comments on Mefi about "taking it to Metachat", mostly from people complaining about sub-standard links and usually in quite a disparaging tone, and it bugs me when I see it.

Yeah mate, friends I hope. It's really a fine line to draw and these things are not quite defined. My meaning was that this is a place for chatting, and that post seemed more like chatting than the sort of link that Matt intended for the site. Or was more about the chatting than the actual post. Oh well, I don't want to turn to metametaChat so that's about it from me on this topic. Cheers!
