Jameson Irish Whiskey - Why or Why Not? I can't come up with a cogent theory myself - yet. But maybe you can. →[More:]Also, just in case you weren't aware of it, Jamesons gives away a nifty free gift with every bottle this time of year. For 2005 it is a set of lovely green coasters in a vaguely Jetsons looking dispenser; over the last two years I've amassed a shiny cocktail shaker and a set of mysterious shiny bar implements!

The Irish whiskeys are so often too sweet for my palate. A chewy Scotch or a nice fat glass of Blanton's with a couple of cubes, on the other hand....

When I'm drinking Irish, it's always Bushmills. No particular reason, aside from the fact that I briefly dated someone who drank it. I don't know that I've ever tasted Jamesons.

Maker's Mark has become my default whiskey these days. It really has spoiled me.

I don't drink whiskey very often, I'm a gin person, but somebody bought me a 12 yr. Jameson last night. It was heaven.

Me too, although I have moods where they work, especially in the winter, to really tamp down five or six Guinesses. Which is weird because I like Bourbon, which is sweetish, but has more grit at the end or something, Irish is sweet all the way through. It tastes to me like an illness, somehow. I prefer Bushmills to Jameson aswell.

I like Laphroaig and Oban, those are about the only scotchs that I can palate.

Fuck it, I'll have one. If I'm in the mood to get very very twisted Powers is the way to go.

Get yourself a bottle of the 12 year old stuff. I like the regular too, but the 12 year is really nice and smooth.

So is Bushmill's less sweet than Jameson? That might be better. I've almost bought Bushmill's a couple of times just because I really like the bottle.

I've only ever had Bushmills in Irish coffee, so I can't really say. A friend of mine told me long ago that Bushmills is the Protestant whiskey and Jamesons is the Catholic one, so, being true to my heritage and all -

I like bourbons too - Makers in particular - but there's something about Irish whiskey and midwinter that's engraved in my mind & tastebuds.

I'm a fellow Bushmill's drinker. I feel that it's a lot more smokey/complex than Jameson's.

The 1608 is relatively inexpensive and really quite good - but every so often I'll spoil myself and fork over the extra for a bottle of Black Bush.

I think there's also a Catholic/Protestant (Bush/James) split, too.

I do find it less sweet somehow and yes MyGoth, Irish is for the winter.

But I'm telling you -if you wanna get paralytic, just locked, if you want to get into something that the cops will wrestle you for, John Mofucky Powers, it'll do ya.

Black Bush.

There is a bar with a lady bartender of African descent where a loony friend of mine, always, always gets himself 86'ed over that kind of Bushmills. They let him back in because it's a pretty funny buildup every time.

I prefer Bushmill's to Jameson's, but not a lot. Actually, I've had folks start arguments with me about which one is better. To which I answer, "That David Burn guy, you know from Talking Heads? They say he's a GENIUS!"

sam - strangely, I'm also a fan of CC. I'm usually quite snobbish about my noise paint but I'll take CC over Crown anyday (aside from actually liking CC; say, have you had Tangle Ridge? Cheap but surpisingly good.).

/misses the handles of CC I'd get while I was in college in Iowa. Oh well, I have my handles of Finlanida these days.
