I'm in Austin for a couple of days. Anybody who's around want to grab a bite or a drink tomorrow evening?
Fuck! You're in my old stomping grounds, brainwidth. Wish I could be there to show you around a bit. Since I'm not, though, here are a few suggestions.
You've got to go to Porfirio's for breakfast tacos. I'm partial to the #1 with cheese. It's at 1512 Holly Street and isn't terribly easy to find. Do check it out.
For lunch, head to Hoover's on Manor Rd. (Since you like Prejean's, I'm pretty sure you'll like Hoover's.) Don't forget the fried okra.
For dinner, go to Curra's -- if for no other reason than the Kahlua flan.
And, since tomorrow is Tuesday, you've got to hit the Continental Club and hear/see Toni Price. You do this, and you get special props from me.
Finally, head back to Ego's, just up the block from the Continental, on South Congress. Don't know who's playing tomorrow night, but I'm sure they're good. Plus, it's very orange. And, pool is free after 10 p.m. And finally, I used to live in the apartment building that surrounds Ego's (which is situated in a parking garage).
i live in austin. i can't show you austin things this week because of the semester coming to an end. so i would just assert the importance of going to the alamo drafthouse DOWNTOWN, yes, the others are also good but not as good, no, never-ever. the alamo is unstoppable.
there's a crappy dive bar just north of the university campus that is also unstoppable. posse east. it is the greatest of bars. does it have unbelivable beers? no. does it have pool or darts or any of that? no. no, and no. it is just a fucking. awesome. bar.
if the weather gets warm again (it was like 80-odd degrees on saturday) you could go rent a boat at the texas rowing center or the austin rowing club (your hotel's basically on top of it. if you're at the hyatt there at congress and cesar chavez, you could probably go up the roof and spit onto their dock) and play on the lake.
that's so best.
you can drive out into hill country. you can go eat barbecue at the salt like. or hang around in wemberley for no good reason at all. it's nice countryside. you can go out to lukenbach. everybody's someone in lukenbach.
Brainwidth, you know what would be really cool? Go to the continental tonight and audioblog Toni Price for the folks here. (No cover!) I think it starts at 6.
The audioblog number is 415/856-0205. If you need an account I can set one up for you.
