1. Watch Over Me (from Shot and Echo)
2. A Tiels Leis (from A Man of No Fortune and With a Name to Come)
3. The Belly of an Architect (from Epic That Never Was)
4. No Testament (from Motives For Writing)

Excellent!

[Love to hear how the drinks turned out, too, btw.]

Yay and thanks! Camp Chase (by Larry Campbell. Who needs coffee!?)

Sounds kind of like soundtrack music.

matildaben, if you look at his profileon allmusic.com, he does soundtracks as well. Peter Greenaway's Belly of an Architect, for example.

Thanks for 'Camp Chase', too, CE. Who needs coffee, indeed.

I'm willing to bet that first track (Watch Over Me) is inspired by Pachelbel's Chaconne*. Interesting.

*Indeed it is a chaconne (as is Watch Over Me), not a true canon. /pedantry

I'm immediately more attracted to the tracks without vocals (much like the first 'four voiceless' post.) The vocal songs aren't inferior, simply more grounding or less fey, in a sense. The straight instrumentals are by far more evocative.

Nice writing music, too, which I was just starting to poke around for; I'm glad you posted again.

You posted that Watch Over Me track before- it was gorgeous, is gorgeous - I've probably listened to it twenty or more times since. I love the way he uses staccato horns - it tugs some heartstrings I'd forgotten.

Not forgetting the other music posts - thanks again for Hella- they're a daily staple now and a source of inspiration.

It's great hearing that theme showing up in other tracks, too.

Frisbee, the drinks turned out great thanks to you.

And, based on the tracks you like, you'd probably really dig the album Shot and Echo or Best of Wim Mertens. And yes, it's excellent writing music. You should also see this thread.

And yes, he's done soundtrack work before and he's often compared to Michael Nyman who's done tons of OSTs.

C_E, thanks for that track. Very nice.

fake, dang, I thought I'd posted a different track before (His Own Thing or Often a Bird) but I couldn't remember. Was trying not to double up.

Often a Bird is lovely... now if only we could get the drummer from the other thread to accompany...
