David Byrne warned by the RIAA. Who's the hand here, and who's doing the biting? The fact that the RIAA has no more respect for a professional musician than you or I is charming. Blah blah anti-RIAAfilter.
I sat next to David Byrne in the movie theater the other day. The movie was JESUS IS MAGIC. Mr. Byrne laughed heartily. As did I.

I have a friend who went on a movie date (sort of) with him. Can't remember which movie though. Apparently he knows his shit on films.

Looks like desperate measures for desperate times for the RIAA. It does seem as though this law took advantage of web-ignorance at the time (streamable vs. downloadable).

Byrne should do an all Byrne/Talking Heads show and see what happens.

I'm glad that the RIAA is there to protect Missy Elliot from David Byrne.

I heard Missy Elliot has a genius-level IQ.

You see, this is insane.

When I set up Radio Metachat I had to think long and hard about whether I should also purchase licensing on top of the hosting.

I felt in the end, it would be more sensible to protect myself from any liability but also to protect the DJs who give so generously of their time.

I had misgivings, and this article shows I was right to be concerned.

By being licensed we are paying to send a list of everything that gets played to the RIAA - and it now looks that if we set one foot wrong they'll use that list (the one we're paying to provide them with!) to sue us.

If I don't license us then it appears we're at less risk of being in court.

I'll have to think about this a little more - it's very disturbing.

Dodgy, if they come for you, it's my fault. I realize that.

Streamable Radio is free promotion for the artist and label. Period. So the RIAA is getting paid to promote their stuff. What a sweet deal for them.

Dodg: Did you get my e-mail about doing a Radio MeCha set or three? It was sent from a likeicare.net address.

Well, he had an "all Missy" playlist, and they only gave him a warning.

That's true, however if he'd run Shoutcast without a license he wouldn't be harrased by the RIAA cos they wouldn't know. And presumably if he ignores the warning they will kick his arse - they are very litigous after all.

Dodgy, if they come for you, it's my fault. I realize that.

Damn that cocksucker Tom Waits!!!
